At Kaya we are continuing with our breeding programs and we have decided to proceed with our October sale – 24th October 2012.
We have continued to test our flock and many of our clients’ flocks. At this point in time we have tested more than 20 of our clients who have purchased ewes over the last 7 years and all have resulted in negative results. One client who purchased 200 ewes from our 2007, 2008, 2009 drops has tested negative and another who purchased 47 ewes from the same period has also returned a negative result.
It is important to note that we have NEVER HAD A CLINICAL CASE of OJD and our entire situation is derived from a single positive pooled faecal sample (PFC). We have had 19 negative batches in the same time period.
We have slaughtered all our aged ewes except for a small nucleus of ewes that we will use for embryo collection and we have retained our 2010 and 2011 ewes.
In late 2012, we will test our entire flock including all purebred animals over 2 years of age and all recipient animals on all properties.
